South Carolina Presidential Inaugural BallThe South Carolina State Society will host the SC Presidential Inaugural Ball celebrating the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States.  The ball will be held at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery on Thursday, January 19.

February 19th: South Carolina State Society Annual Kick-Off Reception, Hill Country BBQ. We always have a great turnout from Congressional staffers, government relations consultants, lobbyists, and a host of other South Carolinians (and some South Carolinians-at-heart!) to help us start the New Year off right. Become a 2015 SC State Society member today!

2015 Events Include:

*April 9th — Masters Happy Hour: We gathered together at Mission in Dupont to watch some great golf and catch up with friends.

*June 20th — A Southern Shag Affair: Our flagship event, and the most popular of the year, the Southern Shag Affair is not to be missed! State Society members and friends join together to commemorate South Carolina’s heritage and state dance: the Shag. The event offers South Carolina State Society members and friends to show their Carolina pride by enjoying classic Southern food such as Carolina barbecue, peaches and sweet tea, while celebrating the Shag by dancing the night away with a live band. This event is known for being a mecca for South Carolina natives, South Carolina college/university alumnae, and South Carolina Congressional members and staff, making it an excellent networking opportunity for those who attend. *Virginia Vineyard Tour: Each year the South Carolina State Society offers members the opportunity to tour the beautiful vineyards that surround Washington, D.C. The day-long trip includes transportation by bus, tastings at each vineyard, and a gift bag filled with goodies to take home.  While this event is one of our most intimate, it is also one of our most popular.

*Carolina Charity Cup:  The Carolina Charity Cup was established in 2013 by South Carolina State Society and North Carolina Society of Washington to raise money for deserving charities that benefit or are based in the Carolinas. The inaugural year raised money for Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, an organization based in the DC area that rescues dogs and cats from high-kill shelters in North and South Carolina. After our weeklong efforts, together we donated almost $2,000 to Homeward Trails and thanks to our active members and sponsors, the South Carolina State Society was crowned victor of the inaugural Charity Cup.

*Holiday Soiree: The final event of the year, the Holiday Soiree gathers State Society members and friends to spread good cheer in the holiday season. Held at Cava Mezze in Eastern Market, the 2013 & 2014 soirees were sold-out receptions with over 100 attendees.  We were pleased to have Congressman Mark Sanford and Congressman Tom Rice join us to celebrate the holidays.
